Pontyclun Falcons’ Kim Jones is looking forward to making history two weeks in a row, if she is selected for Crawshays Women in their first ever game this Saturday, writes Ian Golden.

Crawshays take on the Welsh national side at Eugene Cross Park in Ebbw Vale (kick-off 2.30pm) and it’ll be a strange experience for the 31-year old, having only just run out in Welsh colours last week, but in the 13-player code.

Jones starred at hooker for the Wales Rugby League international side as they played their first ever capped game, beating England Lions 24-20 in St Helens last Saturday. It’s been a remarkable journey for her, having only started playing rugby league this year, fitting it all in between her commitments to the Falcons.

“It’s been a very exciting time,” she said. “Playing for Wales in rugby league, and then knowing that I was set the be part of the first Crawshays women’s side too.

“Both game are a part of history in their own way and I’m very proud and privileged to be hopefully doing both.

“It will be a bit strange, lining up against Wales after representing them in another code last week, but I’m sure I’ll treat it as any other fixture and we’ll play to our best ability as a team.”

For Jones, it’s been an outstanding year. In addition to her Welsh caps and Crawshays squad selection, she’s represented Cardiff Blues and won a trophy with the Falcons.

“It’s a very positive year in regards to rugby,” she said. “I started off with the Falcons, holding the title for winning the Premiership, and then I had the opportunity to try out rugby league for the first time with Cardiff Blue Dragons. This of course ended with me earning myself a Welsh cap alongside some of my Falcons team-mates. Now it’s great to be able to be involved in the Crawshays and I hope I can do the badge proud.”
