Lyn Jones

Former Crawshay’s player and former Crawshay’s coach Lyn Jones is arguably the best Welsh coach never to have coached the national team.  In his playing days, the former Welsh international was described by the legendary Brian Thomas (Neath’s team manager) as “The fittest, fastest, cleverest and best back-row forward in Britain”.

His clever rugby brain transferred well to the coaching profession where he won coaching titles with Neath RFC, The Ospreys and incredibly gaining promotion to the English Premiership with London Welsh.  Lyn then moved back to Wales to coach the Dragons where he teamed up with Shaun Connor who was the Backs Coach at the Dragons.  Lyn then took on the Russian Head Coach role in 2018 and instantly took Shaun with him to head up the Russian attack.

Shaun Connor

Former Crawshay’s player Shaun Connor also had an excellent domestic playing career, playing for Abertillery RFC, Ebbw Vale RFC, Newport RFC and Neath RFC before playing regional rugby for the Dragons and the Ospreys –  being instrumental beating Australia 24 – 16 in 2006.

Like Lyn, Shaun had an excellent rugby brain that transferred well into coaching and has held coaching positions at the Ospreys, the Dragons and the WRU.

Crawshay’s General Manger, Will Thomas, commented ‘I’m delighted that Lyn and Shaun have agreed to be part of the pre-match hospitality for the Crawshay’s v Wales game.  Having worked with them both and dare I say socialised with them both previously, I know they will add tremendously to a great days entertainment.  I can’t wait to hear their stories from the recent Rugby World Cup in Japan on top of their entertaining stories from yesteryear.’

Thomas added ‘It’s going to be a great day for the Club playing our first ever women’s fixture, first ever fixture against Wales and our first ever fixture against a tier 1 rugby nations.  Please come and support the Club.’
